Elevating workplace wellness together with Signify

While working life undergoes numerous transitions, creating office spaces that boost employee well-being and productivity is more important than ever. Lighting plays a crucial role in this transformation, directly impacting how people feel and perform at work. At the forefront of this shift, Secto Design has joined forces with Signify, the world leader in lighting solutions best known for its Philips brand, to bring the benefits of Human Centric Lighting and premium design to the workplace.

Few people have the opportunity to spend working days outdoors enjoying the well-being benefits of daylight. At the same time, the positive impact of natural light is increasingly acknowledged and supported by scientific research. We all need light, not only to see well but also to feel and function well.

Daylight helps us to align our circadian rhythm or sleep-awake-cycle, which is a key factor in our general well-being both at and outside work. Indoors, the light level intensity is generally tuned according to the visual functions of light, but the biological impact is often overseen. Human Centric Lighting (HCL) aims to answer not only to our visual demands but also to our biological and emotional needs.

The Philips BioUP technology developed by Signify is a lighting solution designed to bring the benefits of daylight indoors. Enhancing the LED light spectrum with cyan light, it increases the biological impact of light to balance the natural rhythm of our bodies–without changing the visual colour or intensity of the light.

With the integrated Philips BioUP technology developed by Signify, the Owalo pendant lamp brings the benefits of daylight indoors.

Integrated into the Owalo pendant lamp using a built-in Philips LED, the BioUP technology provides the iconic luminaire with entirely new features. Already a favourite in office design thanks to its elegant, architectonic shape and soothing, wooden material, the Owalo pendant now provides biological benefits in addition to beauty and practicality.

One metre long, the Owalo pendant illuminates an entire desk. Mounted on thin steel wires, it seems to float above the workspace, creating a spacious feel even in low-ceilinged rooms, without obstructing the sight in open-space offices. The lamp’s thoughtful design includes a height-adjustable wire lock, ensuring it can be customised for various environments.

Like daylight, wood as a material in interior design has been shown to have numerous positive effects on our well-being, for example lowering heart rates. With its wooden shade sustainably handcrafted from certified birch, the Owalo pendant brings harmony and warmth to the work environment while ensuring optimal lighting.

The alliance of advanced lighting technology and thoughtful design improves not only well-being, but also employee engagement, mood, and productivity. Harmoniously designed workspaces are also known to attract and retain top talent. Additionally, pleasant spaces encourage employees to work in the office. Investing in office lighting and other decor demonstrates that the company appreciates its employees and is committed to their comfort and satisfaction.
